Islington community services lawyer wins CBE in New Year's Honours List
Uma Mehta, Chief Community Services Lawyer at the London Borough of Islington, has been awarded a CBE in the New Year’s Honours List for services to children.
Harold Carter, deputy legal adviser at the Treasury Solicitor’s Department, was named a Companion of the Order of the Bath for services to Government Legal Services and services to the community in Guildford, Surrey.
Robert Messenger, deputy director at TSoL, was meanwhile given an OBE for services to Government Legal Services.
David Cook, Second Parliamentary Counsel in the Office of the Parliamentary Counsel, was named a Companion of the Order of the Bath for services to the preparation of legislation.
High-profile awards included Fiona Woolf, former Law Society President and Lord Mayor of London, being made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
Woolf, who was recently forced to step down from chairing the inquiry into historic child abuse, received the award for services to the legal profession, diversity and the City of London.
