Browne Jacobson advises council on acquisition of town centre market
Law firm Browne Jacobson has advised Staffordshire Moorlands District Council on a deal to acquire Cheadle Market for £260,000 after it was put up for sale in a live auction.
- Details
The market’s strategic position on the high street in Cheadle, located four miles from Alton Towers resort in Staffordshire, meant the council identified the opportunity this might offer in regenerating the town centre.
Staffordshire Moorlands said purchasing the market was central to its plans to raise the town’s profile and grow the local economy in partnership with stakeholders, businesses, traders and residents.
It will now complete all the transactional and legal requirements, supported by the advisory team at Browne Jacobson, before reviewing the asset to decide on its future.
Gideon Frater, Associate at Browne Jacobson specialising in regeneration, said: “Purchasing Cheadle Market has been a core ambition of Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, which believes a thriving market at the heart of the town will be a great asset and a key contribution to a vibrant future for Cheadle.
“Our firm has a strong desire to work with clients aiming to solve some of society’s biggest issues. Restoring historic assets and regenerating town centres is a great example of this.”
